'Cheluvina...' challenges 'Mungaru Male' success
Sep 21, 2007 R.G. VijayasarathyThe top five Kannada films are:
1. "Cheluvina Chiththaara" - This is by far the biggest box office hit of the year. The collections have not subsided despite competition from big releases. In some centres, the film, which is a remake of the Tamil hit "Kaadal", has been able to collect even more than last year's blockbuster "Mungaru Male".
2. "Mathadu Mathadu Mallige" - Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar's film continues to do well even in its fourth week and the collections have been rock-steady. The film's success adds another feather in actor Vishnuvardhan's hat. Last year, his "Sirivantha" turned out to be a good revenue-earner. Chandrashekhar's direction and dialogues are the film's major attractions.
3. "Anaatharu" - A remake of Tamil hit "Pithamagan", the film has opened to a bumper response. It is expected to do very well mainly because Upendra has given one of his best performances in the film.
4. "Milana" - The film is directed by Prakash, who is known for providing a classic touch to his creations. Actor Puneet Raj Kumar is a big draw at the box office and the initial collections have been predictably good.
5. "Mungaru Male" - It is still running well in all the major centres where it is expected to complete a year.
