Budget does not stop 'Baa Baaro Rasika' - Kannada Boxoffice
Aug 1, 2004 IANS Aug 11) "Baa Baaro Rasika": It may be a small-budget film, but the collections of the film in many centres are comparable to those of any star-studded film. Elements that appeal to the young audience, including a strong undercurrent
of sex, have helped this Ramya Krishna-starrer win hearts.
Young Sudip, acting with the much older and glamorous Ramya, has proved to be a lucky star once again. The sensuous filming of the songs has also helped.
2) "Monalisa": The film is inching towards a 100-day run in Bangalore and Mysore. The film, made on a budget of Rs.14 million, has touched business of around Rs.30 million.
Journalist Indrajith Lankesh, the director of the film, had no track record of success, but has proved to be a director of substance. The film has already been sold to all the distribution areas of Karnataka. Dhyan and Sada, the leading pair, are the main attraction of the film. Its music is also a strong point.
3) "Kanti": This Murali-Ramya-starrer had a good opening all around the state despite the rains. The film faced some censor problems and gained some good publicity on account of the delay in the release.
While trade pundits were expecting the film to be a hit, there was a gradual drop in collections from the second week. Though the collections are good in the main centre of Bangalore, there are indications that the film may well be an average grosser in other city centres.
4) "Love": This film, which was hyped before its release because of several factors, including the strong star cast and power packed technical crew, has suffered due to its competition with "Kanti".
But the collections of "Love" were good in centres like Mysore, Mandya and Hubli. Since the film had no good story value, its production values did not help. Producer-director S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu has failed to rise to expectations.
5) "Ramakrishna": The film, which has completed 50 days of running in the main centres, is doing brisk business at the B centres. The producer, who has kept the rights of the film to himself, has benefited most from the film's moderate success.
The appeal of two popular heroes, Ravichandran and Jaggesh, has helped the remake of Tamil film "Aan Paavam".
