'Aaptha' music on top, but 'Aham Premasmi' catching up

Bangalore, Jan 16 (IANS): Although "Aaptha Mithra" is still at the top of the Kannada audio sales, Eswari Audio claimed that their forthcoming release, "Aham Premasmi", is catching up, having sold more than 100,000 CDs and 300,000 cassettes.

Since the CDs and tapes were marketed through cable operators around the state, the sales figures for director Ravichandran's "Aham Premasmi" could not be verified.

There is also a sudden spurt in the audio sales of "Aaptha Mithra", even as it completes 150 days. "But for piracy, we should have sold more than half a million cassettes by this time," said Ashwini Audio's Ram Prasad.

Guru Kiran has charted a new course as a music director, with three songs - "Raa Raa", "Pata Pata" and "Kana Kanavu Sharade" - rising to the top of the charts.

According to director Ravichandran, each song in "Aham Premasmi" was shot for 12 to 18 days on an average. They are the kind of extravaganza not seen in Kannada films before.

Its audio was released through a live programme on a popular TV channel and two of the songs - "Pullinga" and the title melody - have become extremely popular.

The audio sales of "Chappaale" have become brisker after the film's release. To the credit of music director R.P. Patnayak, the audio did well even though the film does not have a big-star cast. "Yenivaaga" and "Ailu Ailu Mobilu" are popular songs.

The song "Suntaragaali" from "Kalasi Palya" has also become very popular, although its tune was lifted from "Manmatha Raja", a hit from the Tamil film "Thiruda Thiruda".

Another song "Kencha Kencha", is proving popular on TV channels. Though Sadhu Kokila has been a busy music director, this is the first time that one of his films has figured on such a list.

Upendra, whose recent films were not doing well in the audio market, has regained his former popularity with "News". The Upendra-Guru Kiran combination has worked, with two songs - "Naanu Jeetendra, Neenu Sridevi" and "Munjaneya Manjali" - rising in popularity.
