'Aaptha' audio tops, 'Kalasi' surprises

Bangalore, Dec 2 (IANS): Like the film "Aptha Mithra", the popularity of its audio is also not showing any sign of waning. It still tops the Kannada audio chart. The surprise packet of the fortnight's pick, however, is the album of "Kalasi Palya".

The following are the top five albums:

1. "Aaptha Mithra": The hit of the year and will be completing one hundred days' run this week. According to Ram Prasad of the Ashwini Audio, which has released the audio, over 2,000 cassettes are selling every week. Three songs of the film "Raa raa", "Pata pata" and "Kana kanavu" top the charts.

2. "Kalasi Palya": This is the year's most surprising audio hit. "Kalasipalya" has brought in a new market for the Darshan's films, not noted for audio sales. The audio was manufactured and marketed by producer Ramu, who has struck gold with this film. The songs have been widely advertised on the television channels. The film's collections are showing the downward trend, but the cassette seems to be selling well. "Suntaragaali, suntaragaali" has become a big hit.

3. "Nalla": The audio seems to have picked up after the release of the film. Music directors Venkat and Narayan have achieved their first major success. "Malagu malagu gubbi mari" and "Machcha dav hodeyodhu" have become major hits.

4. "Jyeshta": The film is not yet released, but the audio sales have been going up. For the film's hero, Vishnuvardhan, it will be a dual celebration that his film "Aaptha Mithra" is also completing 100 days. The success of "Aaptha Mithra" has been carried over to the audio of "Jyeshta". Music director S.A. Raj Kumar has used the same tune he had used in Telugu film "Vasantham" for a song. "Oh Kanchana", "Ninnegala nenapugale" and "Mannigu manujanigoo" have become top songs.

5. "Mourya": The film is a success, but the audio is not proportionately popular. Music by Guru Kiran has not been to the liking of the Puneet Raj Kumar fans. Guru had given some good tunes for films like "Appu" and "Abhi" starring Puneet. This had led to expectations from "Mourya", which have been belied. "Simple aagi jelthini" and "Pilla pilla", however, have become popular songs.
