'Prom Night' crowned king at weekend box offices

New York, April 14 (DPA) Slasher-flick remake "Prom Night" waltzed to the top of the North American box-office rankings over the weekend with a three-day gate of $22.7 million, according to preliminary studio estimates issued Sunday.
The movie opened Friday, starring Brittany Snow as a student terrorized at a school dance by an obsessed former teacher who escapes from prison.
The 1980 original, considered a classic in the horror genre, had Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead role.
