Football fans boycott 'The Day The Earth..'

London, Dec 18 (IANS) Angry football fans are boycotting Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves starrer "The Day The Earth Stood Still", thanks to a scene in which their stadium is destroyed.

Bayern Munich supporters were furious when an advertisement of the recently released film was broadcast on the club's giant TV screens, reports ananova.com.

It showed the Arena Stadium they were sitting in being wiped out by aliens. The German champions said they knew nothing of the scene until it appeared in the match-day trailer.

"We were not informed and were also not asked for permission," said the club's media director Markus Hoerwick.

"It is not in our benefit to be represented in such a way. We will now examine whether and how we react to it."

Directed by Scott Derickson of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" fame, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" released worldwide Dec 12.
