Sunny Deol's date with adventure

New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) Those who are bored with Sunny Deol's patriotism will see him in a new avatar in "Naksha" - an adventure film inspired by Hindu mythology.

Sunny's role as a traveller looking for an ancient map is a departure from his staunch patriot image he aggressively promoted in "Gadar - Ek Prem Katha", "The Hero - Love Story of a Spy" and "Jo Bole So Nihaal"

Sunny, whose career nosedived after flops like "Jaal", "Khel", and "Teesri Aankh", told IANS: "I think it is the first adventure film in the country."

"Naksha" directed by Sachin Bajaj was shot in Manali and Rohtang Pass and Sunny says it was a challenge filming it.

"Shooting in that (cold) climate was a challenge. In spite of all the problems we continued to work. Everybody involved was shooting in such conditions for the first time which made it all the more exciting."

Sunny admits that the story is inspired by a mythological tale but the emphasis is superficial.

"Yes, the idea is from there but we have not gone into the details. It has nothing to do with the past - it is about something which is lost and has to be rediscovered."

The actor is surprised that very few directors are interested in adventure films.

"Frankly speaking, I don't know why we haven't made anything like this before. It is just that Sachin came up with this idea. He was very clear in his mind and that's why he could complete the project."

"I am sure quite a lot of people would want to do a film like this."

The actor will be seen dancing on the famous "Jat yamla" song in this film. But Sunny says it has nothing to do with the song "Main jat yamla pagla" which was picturised on his father Dharmendra in "Pratigya". "Only a few words are the same."

Viveik Oberoi and Sameera Reddy will also be seen in Sachin's directorial debut.
