Rituparna making inroads into Bollywood
Oct 24, 2006 IANSAfter earning rave reviews for her performance in "Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh" last year, she has bagged some good films in Bollywood.
She is currently shooting for "Gauri - The Unborn" with Atul Kulkarni and Anupam Kher. R. Mohan, who financed "Chandni Bar" and "Gardish", is producing the film.
"I'm so glad working with the hit combo of 'Chandni Bar' - Atul and Mohanji. It's a very challenging role and I'm looking forward to the release of the film," Rituparna told IANS.
She is also looking forward to "Saab Chai Paani", which is inspired by the hard-hitting cop drama "Ardh Satya". She is cast opposite Sonu Sood and the film is being directed Manish Sood, who scripted "Sarkar" and "D".
"Manish is very talented and doesn't compromise on the quality of shots. He is energetic and efficient. And Sonu is such a dedicated actor, but unfortunately I didn't get to work with Om Puri in the film. I really admire his work."
Rituparna will also be seen with Ashmit Patel, Jackie Shroff and Anuj Sawhney in National Award-winning director Ujjwal Chatterjee's film based on a Rabindranath Tagore novel.
She also has an English film "Hidden", a suspense drama with romantic interludes, in her kitty in which she will share screen space with British stage actors Samuel Risby, Stuart Parker and Akshay Walker.
"I've done a lot of Bengali films with internationally acclaimed directors like Aparna Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Sandip Ray. But I want to transcend boundaries as an actress. I want to create a niche in both commercial and art films.
"In fact, its fun to do the dance routine and running around trees bit," said Rituparna who is open to item numbers as well.
According to industry sources, the actress will also do a film with R. Madhavan titled "Neecha Aasman", which will be directed by acclaimed director M.S. Sathyu.
Rituparna has just finished shooting for "Anuranon", which is said to be the first Bengali film to be shot in London.
