Pritam's 'Speed' is a letdown

Pritam Chakraborty's assortment of songs in "Speed" is quite forgettable. After belting out hits like "Dhoom" and "Life In A Metro", one is quite surprised that a composer of his calibre would have "Speed" among his list of works.

Already doing the rounds of the small screen is "Hello" from the album, which hasn't really gained much popularity. With ordinary lyrics by Mayur Puri, the track has been sung by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan.

One expects such established singers to render better tracks. But knowing the audiences' tastes, the track is likely to last for a short period and then disappear. Until then, you can expect the music to hit the clubs in the form of remixes.

Starting with 'Hello', every track in "Speed" seems to have some whacky title or the other.

"Wanna Wanna", again rendered by Shaan and Sunidhi, is an average number that doesn't interest you to the extent that a Pritam number usually does. The instrumentals are nice, with mixed arrangements and tempo that gets attention when played. But, sadly, that is all the song delivers. Nothing to make you hum the track even in the bathroom!

"Loving You", a romantic track with good tempo and rhythm is still better than the previous two. It brings some relief after the 'what-was-that' kind of tracks one got to listen to.

Sung by Sonu Nigam and newcomer, Antara Mitra, the number has got the same ingredients like any other track and, yet, there's something that makes you like it.

"Tikhi Tikhi" is all gibberish, to say the least. With unimpressive lyrics, easily forgettable voice of Jojo and mediocre music, the song seems to be a big washout. The lyrics really make you want to doubt the capabilities of Puri. The already wasted album could have done without this number.

The biggest mistake committed by Pritam was to bring in Puri for lyrics that are senseless, and the Hindi-cum-English fare just didn't impress.

"Speed" would not generate much sale. Here's hoping that Pritam makes a 'speed'-y recovery soon to belt out tracks that we all love so much.
