Pritam Chakraborty promises to go original

Sep 25, 2007 Subhash K. Jha

Pritam is tired of being constantly accused of plagiarism and has finally decided to go original.

Says the harassed composer: "I don't know why fellow-composers are constantly gunning for my songs. For my recent Mahesh Bhatt soundtrack "Awaraapan", I've adapted every single track from Pakistani sources. But this fact is duly acknowledged in every track.

"It's not as though I've just lifted the songs and put them in my album. If it was that easy, producer Mukesh Bhatt wouldn't pay me so much money. Obviously, there's more to adaptations than just lifting songs."

He promises to go entirely original in his forthcoming album "Jannat", directed by Mohit Suri's assistant Kunal. "Hopefully after that, people will stop bitching about how unoriginal I am."
