'Parzania' once more in Ahmedabad
May 10, 2007 Indo-Asian News ServiceDrishti Media Collective has come forward to hold a screening of the film on Sunday at the Gujarat Vidyapeeth, the university founded by Mahatma Gandhi.
The first public screening of the film was on April 23 by two NGOs - Act Now for Harmony and Democracy (Anhad) and Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (Sahmat).
"At Sunday's screening, we plan to collect token contributions," said Stalin K., the coordinator of Drishti Media.
Part of the collections would go to Dara and Rupa Mody, the parents of a Parsi boy who has gone missing since March 1, 2002. The critically acclaimed Naseeruddin Shah-Sarika starrer is the real life story of the disappearance of their only son during the Gujarat riots.
Directed by US-based Rahul Dholakia, the film was released across the world Jan 26, but could not be shown in Gujarat after Hindu rightwing organisations allegedly threatened cinema owners.
Drishti Media, along with several organisations including People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), has opposed the "ban" on the film.
