'Main Aisa Hi Hoon' music review
Jan 11, 2005 Dr.P.V.VaidyanathanThe first song in the album, Deewanapan Deewangee, by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, starts off with a dialogue between Ajay Devgan and the heroine. This is a slow simple number, with a good use of guitar and keyboard notes, in the background. It talks of the simplicity and madness of the lead pair for each other. Occasionally Alka strains at a high pitch, while Udit is comfortable. Lyrics are the usual ‘chahat, dillagi, etc. But the song grows on you, and you do land up humming it on and off, throughout the day after hearing it.
‘Just Walk Into my Life’ is the next song on the agenda, by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan. The number starts with an argumentative dialogue between Ajay Devgan and Sushmitha Sen. Only the first line of the song is in English, and then the song shifts to a mixture of Punjabi and Hindi, with the word Deewanapan again making an appearance. A soft slow song, it is reasonably good, with Shaan displaying good vocals. Arrangements are simple and melodious. Sunidhi starts singing in the second paragraph.
Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal and Baby Aparna sing the next song, ‘Papa, Mere Papa’. Here again, the song starts with Sushmitha Sen requesting a child to tell her about her father, which the child does in a heart broken voice. Baby Aparna is good and shows good control and range, for a child. The background music is kept simple on violins and the tabla. Sonu and Shreya enter in the second paragraph, where he describes the father of the child as being kind hearted and loving. The song reminds you of Tu mera dil, tu meri jaan oh I love you daddy’ from Akele Hum Akele Tum.
Deewanapan Deewangee follows this song, but on the piano as an Instrumental version. However, it is a very short piece. Papa Mere Papa is repeated as part 1, in the voices of Sonu and baby Aparna. The young girl starts off by asking her father as to why he is different from the rest of the fathers, to which he replies that he works even on Sundays, and hence he is a different father. This also is a very short tune.
Raat hai Soyi-Soyi is the next song in the album. This song is by Sonu Nigam, and is a slow song, almost sounding like a lullaby, but last for just about a minute. The song sounds promising, and thankfully there is longer version later on.
Teri Galiyon Se is the next number, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Jayesh Gandhi. This song is a very high-pitched song, and is a semi classical fusion type of song. Starting off with an introspective dialogue in the voice of Esha Deol, about going away and not returning, this song is neither fast nor slow and is accompanied by some good drums and beats. The voices sound westernised and synthesised, but the lyrics are quite interesting. The interludes with the sitar and sarangi add an Indian classical touch. The song will do well on the dance floor. Jayesh adds to the Hindustani classical touch by singing some good surs and an alaap towards the end.
Just walk into my life follows this, for the second time in the album, in Shaan’s voice. This again is a short piece, lasting for over a minute.
Raat Hai Soyi-Soyi is the next song, again a repeat in Sonu’s voice. Like the rest of the songs, this too starts off with a dialogue between the singer and his daughter. The arrangements for this song are contemporary, with the tabla, keyboard and violins. Sonu, as we know is an amazing singer, and he gives this song too his best effort, and is pleasant. The lyrics of the song are used effectively in this song, where the father introduces the sky, the stars, the sun and the meadows etc, to his inquisitive daughter.
Dil Mera Todo Na, the last song in this album is sung by Udit Narayan. Yet again, the opening monologues in Ajay Devgan’s voice before we go on to the song. This song is a plea by the singer to the heroine to not leave him and go, as it would break his heart. Udit has done well to modulate his voice, to sound like that of Ajay Devgan, who incidentally plays a mentally challenged individual. But overall, the song is pretty average.
In the final analysis, the music of Main Aisa Hi Hoon is quite average, with no song standing out, or likely to make it, as a chart buster. Deewanapan Deewangee is hummable, while the rest is not likely to remain in your mind for long.
