Link-up with Sudhir did upset me: Chitrangada Singh
Jan 25, 2011 IANSIt's her second film with Mishra after her debut "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" (2003).
"It did upset me a lot. Sometimes I think there's nothing much to write about me; so they just find something, you know. It probably just makes a good story, but the obvious link-ups will not happen," Chitrangada, who is married to golfer Jyoti Randhawa and has a son with him, told IANS in an interview.
"Sudhir found me, he got me here, and there is a rapport. Everyone is entitled to his or her camps in the industry. I don't know why if a woman manages to have certain associations, it becomes wrong? And it's unnecessarily putting something in our heads.
"In my head, definitely I was feeling a bit awkward. Was there something? Why have people started thinking like this? I didn't start maintaining any distance though. Whether there is something or not, it just makes you feel uncomfortable within friends circle when people starts asking certain things. It's silly," said the 34-year-old.
Releasing Feb 4, "Yeh Saali Zindagi", a romantic thriller, has Irrfan Khan and Arunoday Singh in the male leads. The movie shows how far both the actors will go to get the women they love and how sometimes one screw-up can set everything right.
Asked what excited her to be a part of the film, she said: "What struck me most was that there was not just a hero's love story, there is a bad guy and his love story was as beautiful as the so-called hero's love story. The bad guy played by Arunoday was really weak and soft in front of his wife.
"What I liked was that there was nobody in extreme; nobody was too bad or too good. Even the hero, played by Irrfan, was also not a person with all goodness. He has also got an edge to it. So is the girl I play in the film, she is also not all nice. She uses guys when she wants... So everyone is in-between and there is no good, bad or linear kind of thing," said Chitrangada.
Incidentally, in her four-film career, she has played similar roles in "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Sorry Bhai" (2008).
In "Yeh Saali Zindagi", she takes advantage of one guy's love for her lover.
The actress maintains that she identifies with such characters and that certain vulnerability makes them more tangible.
"In 'Hazaron...', I was a three-men girl; here I have two men, if you have a certain amount of honesty in your character, and you can very honestly say that she is very selfish about her love. Even in 'Sorry Bhai', I don't say she has been selfish, she has been honest you know.
"I absolutely identify with these characters. I relate to it because there is no emotion, which is justified if it's demanded of you. This is the reality. So, without naming it bad or good, accept the truth," said Chitrangada.
She worked with Irrfan for the first time in the film and his subtleness impressed her the most.
"He is master of subtlety. He has superb timing in comedy. He is so subtle that he throws his line before you could actually realise. That is what is refreshing about his comic performance as well," said Chitrangada.
