Dec 4, 2011 IANS"His son Sunil came out of the bathroom and saw that Dev saab was not responding. He called the doctor, who said that he had a heart attack. He died at 10 in the night in London," Mohan Churiwala, Dev Anand's manager, told IANS.
The iconic star is survived by his wife, former actress Kalpana Karthik, a son and a daughter.
As soon as the news spread, a grief-stricken Bollywood offered condolences and recalled his significant contribution to cinema.
While Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan said an "era has come to an end", actress Shabana Azmi said the legend "will be missed by millions but will live on through his movies".
And live he will through his movies, as he starred in some ahead-of-its-time films like "Guide".
Dev Anand began his career with "Hum Ek Hain" in 1946. However, he got his first big break with "Ziddi" in 1948.
The flamboyant star is also known for giving big hits like "Baazi", "Guide", "Jewel Thief", "Johnny Mera Naam", "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", "CID" and "Tere Mere Sapne".
His last outing as an ator and director was "Chargesheet", a dud at the box office.
