Esha Deol is having a ball

Jul 13, 2005 Subhash K. Jha, Jul 13

Mumbai, July 13 (IANS) She has been a rebel child from the start. Hema Malini's elder daughter Esha Deol is quite a dynamo.

The Scorpio, who has never followed the rules, grins with the glow of her success after "Dhoom" and "Kaal". Now, in Anubhav Sinha's "Dus", she whips up some more fun for herself.

"It's an out-and-out fun film. All of us had a ball shooting 'Dus' in Canada. I love to enjoy myself. That's what makes me special, I guess," she says, as she settles down to an eminently bright phase in her career.

"I've done a lot of serious stuff right from my first film 'Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche' where I had played, believe it or not, a widow!"

Wrong start. Esha was branded a serious actress at a time when she just wanted to have fun.

But now she's determined to break free... and freak out!

"I'm shooting for not one, but three full-fledged comedies one after the other. I've completed (Anees Bazmi's) 'No Entry', where I bubble over with a whole bunch of us, from Anil Kapoor to Salman Khan to Zayed Akhan. Then I've just shot in Italy for three weeks for (David Dhawan's) 'Shaadi No 1'. All of us - Sanjay Dutt, Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan, Ayesha Takia, Fardeen and Zayed - had so much fun. It was like a picnic."

Wouldn't Esha be lost among so many other actors in "No Entry" and "Shaadi No 1"?

"Not really! If I fear getting lost I'd never venture out on the unknown road," says the new power-packed Deol who's got another comedy, Indra Kumar's "Pyare Mohan" opposite Fardeen Khan, on the anvil.

What's with all these Khan heroes? Is she a Khan-daani gal, or what? "No, no! None of the heroes is my favourite. I'm equally partial or impartial, to all of them... And, yes, I've learnt to be diplomatic and proper in my attitude."

That too is a comedy!

So is Esha turning into a male Akshay Kumar? Esha doesn't mind the comparison.

"You mean all the comedy roles? Why not? 'Dhoom' taught me how to have fun, how to let my hair down, not to mention loose extra weight. Today, I'm very proud to have such a toned physique. But I won't flaunt my body for no rhyme or reason. That's not me at all. And besides, my mom won't be comfortable watching me do the bare-dare stuff beyond a point. And I don't want to do anything to freak her out," says the young Deol kid, whose best work "Na Tum Jano Na Hum", came and went unsung.

"How I wish that film had worked! Both Hrithik and I had worked so hard on it. It's just one of those things... If 'Na Tum Jano Na Hum' had worked before 'Dhoom' my career might have taken a different course. But I'm having a ball right now. These are probably the best years of my laugh... I mean, life."
