Bhansali's lavish TV production plans

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali wants to bring his style of lavish filmmaking to the small screen - albeit as a producer.

"TV is the most powerful medium today, and it will grow even more powerful tomorrow. So I feel it is important for my work to reach out to the homes of the people, rather than people coming to the theatres to watch my work," Bhansali, who has hosted couple of shows on TV, told IANS.

"I may not be directing for TV, but I am definitely looking at producing TV shows, essentially soaps," added the filmmaker, best known for films like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Devdas" and "Black".

Bhansali's films have a certain grandeur, style and traditional touch, which have often been reflected in popular TV shows, he feels.

"If you look at television today, 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' is the film which has been made most into TV serials in terms of the scale, approach, the drama, the costumes, sets...they are all 'Devdas' and 'Hum Dil...' all the way.

"So if people have made so much money and made serials and reached millions of people that were almost inspired by these two films, then why not that I come in there? I am all set," added Bhansali, who is nowadays enjoying his stint as a film producer.

After "My Friend Pinto", he is set to release "Rowdy Rathore" and "Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi". Directing a song-and-dance masala film is also on his mind, but he wants to lock his small screen plans sooner than that.

"I should produce something for TV within next year or maybe before I start work on my next directorial. I think it is important because it is important to diversify your ways of reaching out to people. So I am looking forward to it," he said.

Bhansali judged the dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa" and music reality show "X Factor".
