Acharya to release longer version of 'Loins Of Punjab'

Mumbai, Oct 18 (IANS) Though his "Loins Of Punjab Presents" hasn't done half as well at the box office as he hoped it would, director Manish Acharya is now gearing up to release a longer edition of the 90-minute film on DVD.

Acharya has got nearly as much footage left behind on the editing table as he has put on screen.

"You can call it the director's restored-cut," Acharya told IANS.

"We had elaborate introductory scenes for all the characters. But we found that these were taking up too much of the playing time and delaying the main event, the music contest. I wanted to focus on the contest and then maybe bring back the introductory scenes in flashbacks. But that didn't happen," he added.

Among the many scenes that got edited out had Shabana with her screen-husband.

" Shabana's close friend played the character. And the scene showed why her character became the way she did. Another scene had Seema Rahmani (playing the Bollywood-fixated bimbo) going for an audition for a movie and throwing a whole lot of attitude at the 'white' jury, arguing that she'd never get the role because she's brown-skinned."
