Dus Tola Hindi Movie
Manoj Bajpayee plays a goldsmith called Santosh who is in love with his neighbour's daughter Swarna (Aarti Chhabria). The girl advises him to gift her 10-tola gold necklace and promises that once she wears the mangal sutra from him her father would allow them to get married. However as soon as Santosh gifts the necklace Swarna does backtracks on her promise even denying that she ever go any gifts from Santosh. A heartbroken Santosh waits for the right time to strike back.
A story about a goldsmith who is cheated in love, Dus Tola is more about gold than anything else. In fact it is evident that the director did much better research on how a goldsmith works than his own screenplay. There is an array of characters, none making much sense in the story. Rather everything adds to make this film extremely disjointed. At around two hours long this film could have been probably cut down to half an hour! It does not score much on technical grounds as well.
Talking about performances, Manoj Bajpayee probably comes up with one of his worst works in this film. The gifted actor in him is completely missing. Aarti Chhabria does her bit though her character is way too shallow to perform. Ditto with the other female lead Pallavi Sharda! Her character has no bearing to the movie's story. The others too just make a mess of themselves.
As the movie draws to an end with the credit, 'A film by Ajoy', it only makes me wonder if the director too is pleased with his output. May be he should have just made a documentary on the craft of a goldsmith! There is no one liner to this story, something that could hold interest. Overall, Dus Tola is best avoided.
