Vijaya Raghavendra starrer "Shravana" by director B.S. Rajashekhar marks a new low in the Kannada film industry for its extremely boring narrative and weak screenplay. B.S. Rajashekhar had worked as an assistant many years ago and after watching "Shravana" you will definitely feel he is still a novice.

Rajashekhar had made another film "Hai" some five years ago and he has just repeated his old mistakes in "Shravana".

The comedy tracks the antics of two villains in the film that bring back memories of overacting.

It's crystal clear that the story of "Shravana" does not have any contemporary connection. Even music and camera work lack freshness. The direction is old-fashioned and jarred too.

Rajashekhar has also shown his irresponsibility and immaturity by not making corrections in non-sink dubbing of many artists including the heroine. Audience would just feel that they are watching a bad play or a badly narrated TV serial.

Based on a Tamil story, "Shravana" has a good message that city-bred youth should work in rural areas to ensure all round development.

The movie moves at such a slow pace that many viewers will be forced to walkout in the middle of of the screening and the remaining will certainly feel they have taken a bitter tablet.

In the film, Viji and his two friends love a girl called Kala who is already married. Rejected in love, the two decide to do something to bring some transformation in a village which is ruled by two ruthless cruel brothers.

How they accomplish this task forms the base of this story.

Raghavendra seems to struggle to salvage the film but his efforts are wasted because of the poor handling of the subject by the director. Newcomer Gayathri Iyer fails to make a mark because her role is not well-etched.

Interestingly, the villain's antics bring laughs in the theatre, but comedy actors fail to even bring a smile on the faces of the viewers.

Technically also the film fails, except one song which is well-composed. Cameraman Vasudev not qualified to shoot a film.

"Shravana" is a big let down and fiercely boring. Better watch "Kempe Gowda" again.
