Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moondramaandu Tamil Movie
Director Thirumurugan cast Bharat in the 2006 family entertainer "Em Magan" which was a superhit. Bharat is again the choice of the director for "Muniandi Vilangiyal Moondramandu", set in a rural part of Tamil Nadu. The female lead is teenage debutant Poorna whom Vijay described as "Chinna Asin" at the film's audio launch.
The age-old caste feud is the focus of the story which revolves around the life of a college student who is caught up in a clash of egos between two elders.
Two egoistic seniors of the village, Bharat's father (Ponvannan) and Poorna's father (Raja) are always at loggerheads. They belong to the same caste. Bharat and Poorna are classmates in a college. While caste is no bar to their love affair, the two feuding elders are waiting to settle old scores. The rivalry between them threatens to smother the love between their children. Ponvannan uses his persuasive skills to dissuade his son. This only precipitates matters. But Bharat is not ready to give up hopes. Danger stalks Bharat from the moment Poorna's father invites him to his bungalow. How Bharat emerges from the cauldron is the climax which is the highlight of the film
"Muniyandi..." is not so much a family entertainer as "Em Magan". The focus shifts from family to love and rivalry. How ego clashes can be devastating are well brought out in this film by Thirumurugan.
The screenplay is crammed with twists and turns and this perhaps is to sustain audience interest. A popular TV personality, Thirumurugan's ability to give unexpected twists and introduce sentiments to break the ennui is what made his small screen soaps click with the women viewers.
The college scenes set in rural milieu are realistic. The students, professors, their accents and attires look straight out of life.
Bharat plays a highly temperamental and emotional character. His impressive performance may even help him put the not-so convincing "Nepali" behind and move forward.
Debutant Poorna looks comfortable playing the role of a hapless girl caught in the cross-fire. Lying low for most part of the film and after an agonizing wait and suspense, the lovers show up together. Poorna justifies her being compared with top-ranking Asin.
Comedian Vadivelu appears as a master of witchcraft fooling around with a pocket dynamo 'king kong' to draw laughs. He could not do as well as in "Em Magan".
Ponvannan does his character as a village elder with ease. All others in the cast do a neat job.
The tunes of Vidyasagar are a tad rustic but gel with the rural ambience.
This Thirumugan's second outing with Bharat is said to have been inspired by a real life happening in the Karaikudi area. With high drama and a spectacular climax , the film can be expected to be a big draw.
