Mithya Hindi Movie
After directing films like Mixed Doubles and Raghu Romeo, Rajat Kapoor is back with yet another film with a niche subject titled 'Mithya'. Rajat Kapoor directs his most ambitious project yet, a comic thriller that will amuse as well as thrill you. Mithya stars Rajat's co-stars of the low budget box-office hit film 'Bheja Fry', Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Patak along with Neha Dhupia and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles.
So what's in store for us in Mithya?
The film opens with VK who comes to Mumbai, chasing big film dreams, like thousands of others. After much of struggle he gets his big break, to be the hero of a live experience filled with action, romance, betrayal and drama. Fate makes him a pawn in a master game plan of the underworld and he unknowingly gets drawn into a whirlpool of events that will determine his future. Then an unexpected accident turns the tables for everybody involved...
Now begins a chase that won't stop at anything. VK is too deep into it now to step back. He has become an imposter, an imposter who wasn't...
In simple, the movie is about money, conspiracy, deceit, betrayal, lies...everything that the Mumbai underworld is made of.
Mithya - The first half of the movie takes you by surprise but the second half disappoints. Director Rajat Kapoor's attempt is laudable for he unfolds the thrilling story briskly with tad bits of humor scattered nattily. Also with Ranvir, Naseeruddin and Vinay as its lead cast, the movie is high on performances. Screenplay is first-rate and dialogues are interesting and witty. Cinematography is superb giving the film its right look.
Mithya has its share of flaws too. The first half of the movie gives you an impression of being largely comic but post interval the movie gets completely dark with just bhaigiri and mafia dramas. The flow of scenes needed more of attention for the overall impact of the movie, for it gets less gripping especially in the second half. Also the climax lost its air and is just another run-of-the-mill type.
The film doesn't impress by its technical finesse or editing patterns, but with its simple script and power packed performances. The central character played by Ranvir Shorey, in his double role, is topnotch. He proves himself yet again as one of Bollywood's finest talents drawing his act excellently in a role that demanded a constant flip in mood in short spans of time. He perfectly gets into the skin of the character and succeeds in winning the sympathy and appreciation of the audience.
Naseeruddin Shah and Saurabh Shukla are brilliant in their respective roles. Neha Dhupia is good. Vinay Patak and Brijendra Kala are excellent and have great comic timing.
Overall, Mithya is a different movie and succeeds in making an impact.
