Bombay To Bangkok Hindi Movie
'Bombay to Bangkok' comes from the stable of Nagesh Kukunoor who is known for his crossover films. The movie is a light entertainer similar to his debut movie 'Hyderabad Blues'. The success of his films like Hyderabad Blues, Dor and Iqbal has kept the expectations for this flick running high.
So this is how the story goes…
Shankar (Shreyas Tadpade), a cook, in desperate need of money steals from the local Don (Naseerudin Shah). He some how manages to give a slip to the Don's buddies and impersonating as a doctor joins a team heading for relief work in Thailand. His plan though goes wrong as he loses the entire money bag in the subsequent chaos.
In Bangkok his search for the missing loot is derailed when he bumps into a lovely massage girl Jasmine (Lena Christensen) and is instantly smitten by her! The hitch is she speaks only Thai and he can't converse with her at all. Shankar along with his Thai-Sardar buddy Rachwinder (Manmeet Singh) unwittingly pulls Jasmine into the road-trip searching for the money bag. Hot on their trail are the vengeful don's rapper son Jam K (Vijay Maurya) and his henchmen who have landed in Bangkok to retrieve their money.
Nagesh Kukunoor's Bombay to Bangkok is a failure. Although Nagesh is known for his light entertainers, his writing is a letdown for this movie. The script is full of errors and hardly entertains. The ride from Bomaby to Bangkok is mind-numbing and leaves the viewers no where. Most of the gags and comedy situations are predictable while few others make no sense. With each reel, the movie just gets tedious to sit through. In the second half the movie gets lifeless as it is just prolonged for just calling it a 2 hour long flick.
Some scenes in the film work, especially the ones where Vijay Maurya tries hard to rap, Shreyas trying hard to communicate with Lena and few of his dream sequences too. But overall the film is a letdown. It is absolutely tiresome, sluggish and conventional that you often wonder whether you are watching a Nagesh Kukunoor film. The pristine beaches, colors and flurry of Thailand call out loud, but you hardly get to see the beautiful nature of city. The soundtrack is bland, another weakness in the film.
As for the performance,
Shreyas Talpade is brilliant yet again. Despite a poorly written part, Shreyas manages to create a strong impact on the viewers by donning his character very well and with his diverse expressions.
Lena Christensen fits rightly into the character. She does carry off her role pretty well. Although she needs to take some acting classes, for expressions are at times woody.
The rest of the cast are pretty good in their respective supporting roles.
Overall, Bombay to Bangkok is a ride better not taken. With a flawed script the movie barely entertains.
