The Telugu audiences had the taste of Shankar's direction through films like 'Oke Okkadu, Bharateeyudu and Aparichitudu'. You can find some or the other kind of message to the society and an intuition to change the society in his films. However, it is corruption which always attracts the attention of the director. While in Oke Okkadu, he trained his guns on politicians, in Bharateeyudu, he tried to put a full stop on the corrupt practices of officials and in Aparichutudu; again he used his skills in curbing corruption in the form of a disease to the hero. Now, he came with a decent subject again on corruption and black money with South Indian Super Star Rajanikant and Sriya in the lead.

Sivaji (Rajni) is the son of ordinary middle class parents (Manivannan and Vadivukkarasi) who were truly innocent. He also had a very helpful uncle (Vivek). He was basically software professional and returns from abroad with Rs 250 crores, which he wanted to, utilize to serve his motherland. He plans to build colleges and hospitals through Sivaji Foundation to serve the poor free of cost. He meets Adikesava Reddy (Suman), who had experience in running colleges and hospitals, but the latter discourages Sivaji and advises him to invest it in real estate business or in building commercial complexes or multiplexes. He gives this suggestion as Sivaji becomes a rival to him and his project would hamper his business. Sivaji tries to do all the work on his own and faces several corrupt officials. To fulfill his dream project, he bribes the officials as there was no other go and starts constructing hospital and college. At this juncture, Sivaji loses his heart to Umadevi (Sriya), a good looking girl with girl at the next door qualities.

Adikesava Reddy decides not to allow Sivaji with his dream project and at his instance, the minister orders the officials to demolish the buildings.

Meanwhile Sivaji convinces Umadevi and arranges the engagement and later get married. Adikesava Reddy with his influence dethrones the government and the new government again puts spokes to the project. Even the court verdict goes against Sivaji. Sivaji becomes bankrupt and hands over his entire property to the court. Sivaji plays a trick against Adikesava Reddy and grabs the evidence on his binami transactions and puts him in a risky situation. Rest of the movie is about Sivaji's fight against corruption and injustice.

Rajni's performance, Sriya's glamour, Shankar's directorial capabilities, Antony's editing, KV Anand's cinematography, and Vivek's comedy – each and every aspect in the film could be said as plus points. However, Shankar in an attempt to maintain the commercial elements in the film tried to run the love element with a little comedy. This attempt made the audiences feel bored as they await full throttle action from a film from Rajanikant. However, the second half picked up the momentum and the film has Shankar's stamp and Rajni's style.

The film has a social message that India is not a poor country and it is a few capitalists who were making the country bankrupt by not paying tax properly and at the same time, amassing huge wealth in the form of black money. Had that money was used for public purpose, thousands of students could get free education and thousands of poor people could get good medication and hospital services.
