Bhool Bhulaiyaa Hindi Movie
Bhool Bhulaiyaa directed by Priyadarshan is a remake of the critically acclaimed Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu.
The story is different, its more of a psychological thriller than a comedy. The makers ought to have promoted it as a thriller and not an out-n-out comic flick. But then audience expects comedy in abundance in a Priyadarshan – Akshay Kumar movie. The makers were helpess but this could well go against the movie.
Siddharth (Shiney Ahuja) and his newly-wed wife Avni (Vidya Balan) return from America to his hometown in India. Siddharth insists on staying at his royal ancestral mansion, as the held in its realm a deadly secret that had repeateadly destroyed the family for generations. Siddharth pays no heed and moves over to the palatial mansion. Soon Unexpected happenings, horrific and life threatening incident change their lives. Siddharth calls his Doctor friend Aditya (Akshay Kumar) to the mansion. Can Dr Aditya solve the mystery?
Direction by Priyadarshan is good. He is in form this time around and succeeds in holding the interest level of the viewers well past the climax. The mixture of comedy and thrill is just about right. The climax could have been more convincing. And personally I feel the movie would have been much better if the comic element was limited to a few scenes. Also the editing should have been sharper. A song along with a few unwanted scenes can be chopped from the first half as well as the second for better impact. Two songs 'Hare Ram Hare Ram' and 'Sajda' are good.
Coming to the performances, Vidya Balan is amazing in the last 30 mins of the movie. She looks every bit the characters, acts, emotes and dances well. Akshay Kumar in a slightly different role is good. His fans might be disappointed as he is on screen for a mere 50 mins. Shiney Ahuja is average. Amisha Patel has a small part and she does well. Paresh Rawal is brilliant. Rajpal Yadav and Arsani are decent.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a very entertaining movie, which will meet with varied reactions. Box-office verdict is tough to predict for this flick, it could go either way. But if it fails, the makers are to be blamed for the misleading promotion.
