SYNOPSIS:

"Sabari is 'Captain' Vijayakath's 150th. Suresh who had earlier directed "Gambhiram" and "Arasu" directs the movie. The producer is Salem A. Chandrasekharan.

Jyothirmayee plays the lead role opposite Vijayakanth. "Valameenu" Malavika dons an important role. Pratap Rawat of "Gajini" fame appears as the villain.

According to sources, "Sabari" is totally different from earlier Vijayakanth flicks. And, it is brazenly commercial. The underlining theme is the sword/ knife can be used either way - either as a weapon to kill or a tool to save lives. Vijayakanth as a compassionate doctor uses it for the good causes while Pratap Rawat wields it to draw blood of opponents who cross his path. In this battle of good versus evil who wins?

Jyothirmayee and Malavika make for the glamour quotient. Both these heroines love Vijayakanth, but theirs is one-side love with no reciprocation from the hero. One of them should be the winner and who is she? This drama forms the mainframe of the screenplay.

The film is devoid of the Captain's punch dialogues with political overtones and fights. There are only two stunt scenes. Even these stunts are not like those usually seen in commercial films, the sources claim.

Music director Mani Sharma has taken pains to provide a variety of catchy tunes. Director Suresh, who has written the script, says it is a "pakka" commercial script best suited to Vijayakanth.

The claim by the producer and the director that the film is purely social without any political dialogues or political messages is disputed in some circles who point out a song written by Kavignar Kabilan. The song reads: "Thadai Thaanduvaan Sabari... Vidai Kaanuvan Sabari...Kodi Aettruvan Sabari"... (Sabari will cross the hurdles.., Sabari will find the answer...Sabari will hoist the flag...)

The film is mostly shot in Chennai, Pondicherry and Rameshwaram.
