Sabari Tamil Movie
Director Suresh has fashioned two action flicks "Gambhiram" and "Arasu", which were box-office hits. But his third film, Sabari, produced by Salem A. Chandrasekharan is a big disappointment and comes nowhere near his earlier achievements.
'Captain' Vijayakanth, appearing in his 150th film and the first after he launched his own political party, fails to engage the viewers. He is a performer who has the natural talent to create an electrifying atmosphere with punch lines. In Sabari, there are no delicious dialogues and therefore his performance lacks the sting, which his fans root for. However, were it not for Vijayakanth, the film would have been a wash out.
Here goes the story…
The film opens with an ambulance rushing to a hospital taking Sabarivasan (Vijayakanth) who was lying in a pool of blood and then the movie goes into a flashback mode. Sabari, a world famous heart surgeon, works in the Government General Hospital in Chennai. He is so devoted to public welfare that he fights right the wrongs in society and for improving the lot of the underprivileged. Apart from being kind to the poor, Sabari cleanses the corrupt system in the hospital, which allowed business men who plundered public money, politicians who eluded police action, prostitutes and even men having adulterous relationships to take shelter in the hospital.
Nandini (Jyothirmayee), a software engineer, goes to an RTO for a driving license. She meets Sabari over there and mistakes him for a brake inspector. Their accidental meetings always end up in quarrels. However, when Sabari successfully performs heart surgery on the daughter of one of her office staff, Nandini realizes his kind nature and develops a soft corner for Sabari. At the behest of his father (Delhi Ganesh) and his sister Anjali, Sabari marries Nandini.
Meanwhile, Vajravel (Pratap Rawat of "Gajini" fame), a land shark in the city and his brother-in-law attain riches by grabbing prime lands from their owners. The brother-in-law kills an old man while trying to take over his land and lands himself in jail. Court awards the death penalty. But Vajravel holds Sabari responsible for the death of his brother –in-law and vows to take revenge on him. Vajravel, hand in glove with his friend and supporter GGK, a swindler in the garb of a businessman, unleashes a series of crimes which culminates in a pitched battle between Sabari and Vajravel's henchmen. The remaining part of the film showcases how Sabari, who is ingenious in wielding knife to save lives, uses it to save society from the evil forces.
Pratap Rawat is first-rate, essaying his character to perfection. Jyothirmayee is good though her role is brief. . "Valameenu" Malavika doesn't get much scope. Aiswarya (daughter of yesteryear actress Lakshmi) as the notorious wife of Pratap appears briefly and it's when the movie lights up and gains some pace.
Music director Mani Sharma has taken pains to provide a variety of catchy tunes. Rocky Rajesh has directed the stunts that could at best keep up the image of "Captain" as a super hero.
"Sabari" is not the film that one expected from a renowned actor like Vijayakanth.
