E Tamil Movie
Director Jananadhan who received the national award for his debut film "Iyarkai" has proved that he is a film maker with substance through his second venture "E".
The subject of the film revolves around bio-war and its potential dangers and how poor gullible Indians are made victims by International pharmaceutical companies that come to India to uses its people as Guiana Pigs to test their new formulations.
The director conveys the seriousness of this issue through "E", using simple film making techniques - story without clichés, free flowing screenplay, mind-tickling dialogues, nerve wrecking stunts and good acting from all the actors. The people who watch the movie will come out well educated about the problems of human tests. The movie is gloriously entertaining.
Here goes the story...
Eswaran (Jeeva) alias E an orphan is a slum dweller in Chennai. He is supported by an old lady. E along with his friend Tony (Karunas) carries out small crimes to earn money. E brought up in tough conditions, grows up as a tough, fearless and emotionless guy.
Jyoti (Nayanthara), a bar dancer from Mumbai comes to Chennai and stays in a house opposite to E's. As days go by, Jyoti learns about E's past. She gets attracted towards E.
Meanwhile; Dr.Ramakrishnan (Ashish Vidyarthi) a quack comes to the slum and projects himself as a do-gooder to people living there. Not knowing his ulterior motives, the slum dwellers keep unshakable faith on him. However, his hidden agenda is to make use of them as guinea pigs to test his new but potentially lethal medicines, which international pharmaceutical companies supply to him for a hefty sum.
One day, Jyoti's sister and E's grand mother go to Dr.Ramakrishnan for treatment. Both fall prey to his insidious action. In the meantime, E saves Dr.Ramakrishnan from Nellai Mani (Pasupathy), a terrorist, who is after the Doctor to kill him.
Realizing E's boldness the Doctor enters into a pact with E to capture Mani in return for a huge sum. E captures Mani and when he takes him to handover him to the doctor. Mani tells about Ramakrishna's evil designs. The rest of the film is about how E foils the doctor's malicious actions and brings him to books.
With each film Jeeva is getting better and better and his performance in "E" is exceptional. He is aptly supported Nayanthara. Her looks are ravishing and has performed well too.
The ensemble of support cast has given a very realistic performance. The director should be credited for chosen a complex issue- plaguing the country today- and portraying it in a simple way that even a common man understands. His sharp screenplay and simple narration makes it simple.
Ekambaram's brilliant cinematography is a visual treat. Srikanth Deva has scored a few racy numbers and V.T.Vijayan's crisp editing makes the movie watchable without a wink of an eye. Go and enjoy.
