Oh, Priyathama Kannada Movie
Oh, Priyathama is the Sankranthi release for this year.Normally, star studded films are being slotted for release during the festival. But this year, too many films are running well and lack of availability of good theatres has resulted in some confusion. A festival release is always a good turn for a film, but in the case of this new film Oh, Priyathama directed by young debutant director Shivaprabhu the advantage is lost because it has nothing to offer but a hackneyed plot and a weak story. The film has a long stretched out narration which tests the patience of audience.
The film comes out as a wasted effort mainly because Director Shivaprabhu has failed to make a film which can engage the audience through out the length of the film. The film stretches and drags through the first half, and though the there is little movement in the second half. The unconvincing characterization is also a minus point in the film. The comedy sequences are stale and looks like a repetition. Shivaprabhu should have tried to maintain some continuity in the narration.
Oh, Priyathama has no serious plot and just has a simple story which could have been well narrated. But what we find is that too many negative points playing the role of a spoiler for the film. Chinnu (Ajay) is a happy go lucky young student in search of a girl friend. He is lucky enough to have some sportive parents who give him some ideas to hook a perfect match for him. In the process of searching a perfect girl for him, Chinnu meets Rashmi (Sanchana).Love blossoms between the two, but Rashmi is afraid that her Hitler like father may play a spoil sport. Chinnu is encouraged by his parents, but an anxious Rashmi reveals about her love to her mother and Aunt. But then in a twist of fate, Rashmi's marriage is fixed with another youngster who is incidentally a great friend to Chinnu. Now, Chinnu faces the dilemma. Whether he has to reveal the truth to his friend or allow him to marry his lady love. The knot comes into open in the climax, but you should have patience to watch the proceedings.
What could have been made as a neat film ends up as an wasted effort mainly because of a weak plot. There is not a single moment in the whole film you tend to enjoy. The music of Valisha-Sandeep surprisingly is weak. Mahendra Chittibabu's camera work is just ordinary. however falls flat as the director has chosen to narrate it in a cold and uninspiring fashion. The hackneyed editing also reduce the impact.
Ajay looks jaded though he is a good actor. Sanchana is a minus point in the film. She needs to improve a lot and looks bubbly in song sequences.Veteran artists Sharath Kumar and Geetha are good in their given opportunity. Sudharani and Chitra Shenoy have done well in their brief appearances. Comedy Time Ganesh evokes a few laughs.
An ordinary offering for the festival.
