CRITICAL RESPONSE

"L2: Empuraan" has received a mixed-to-positive response from critics. While the film excels in scale, grandeur, and mass appeal, many reviewers feel it lacks the narrative depth and emotional resonance of its predecessor, Lucifer. Mohanlal’s screen presence and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s direction have been widely praised, but critics point out that the film leans heavily on spectacle rather than storytelling. The film has been lauded for its stylish execution, stunning visuals, and action-packed sequences, but some critics argue that the writing feels convenient, with underdeveloped character arcs and an overly stretched narrative. The movie’s political themes and world-building have been noted as ambitious, but the execution is not as refined as Lucifer.

Verdict:

While Empuraan delivers on action, scale, and visual splendor, it struggles to recapture the storytelling depth that made Lucifer a standout. Fans of Mohanlal and mass entertainers will find much to enjoy, but those expecting a more layered and gripping narrative might be left wanting more.

Watched empuraan in the US on Saturday. I wasn’t really planning to watch it in theaters until my guys gang coaxed me into it , thanks to Lucifer fan following and the media created hype. As a product , overall the movie isn’t satisfying at all. Worked for me in bits and pieces . A lot of cringe moments where leads walk or fight in slow motion (a formula Bollywood and Mollywood has often used) . Unfortunately these don’t work any more. Comparing to films like Marco or Vikram where quality of action is so slick and international , this one falls flat. The last fight scene was such a pain to watch, felt so comical. Mohanlal isn’t able to pull off Abraam Kureshi and felt that the only difference between Stephen and Abraam is the costume. Sadly Stephen’s character which is the core of Lucifer is very limited here. This movie was supposed to take us into a totally different and ruthless world of international mercenaries , which it failed to by running three parallel storylines just enough to confuse the viewers. If the movie had focused on Abraam and his world in the first half and made an organic shift to Kerala politics , that would have done the audience must justice and also trimmed the running time. Merely using foreign like locations or casting foreign actors does not make the movie truly international. The story had to be told earnestly, have a believable plot and less drama.

it's part 2 of lucifer. pathetically, what happened to indian 2 happened to this movie also. very guessing scenes, average screenplay. like in jailer, in this movie, prithviraj acted like siv.rajkumar, with sniper gun shooters. vineeth srinivasan and asif ali acted well and doing good direction of movies. but, prithviraj failed in it. all will make, pan - india movie. but, prithviraj tried to make pan-world movie. what he said against, modi government, in non stopping of non-veg in lakshadeep or andhaman nicobar issue, he straight away attacked bjp. but, what happened to bjp supported movies like emergency, savarkar, atal, kerala story, kashmir files and they failed to hit massively. like the same will happen to this movie. vidudhalai part 1 is good movie. but, part 2 fully speak about communisam and it failed to attract all mass class audience. like that, lucifer is great movie for mohanlal. but, in this movie, the director took a political strategy and it will back fire him. and last advice, like indian 3, we expect, lucifer 3 ( empuran next part)
