Despite Tamil actor Prithvi giving a good performance as the obsessed lover in "Naalo", the film has little chance of making it at the turnstiles, thanks to a dreary screenplay and pedestrian comedy.

Debutant director Samudhira Kani chooses the familiar plot of an obsessive lover who tries to drive a wedge between the girl he loves and her boyfriend. However, the director fails to breathe life into the film, relying on cliches.

"Naalo" got some media hype as the debut film of S.P. Charan, son of noted singer S.P. Balasubramaniam, but Charan has a poorly etched role.

Singer-turned-actor Charan may have pinned hopes on this idealistic role but it fails to make a big impact. He should also shed his kilos to fit into a lover boy role and pick challenging roles instead of routine stuff.

Prithvi, who came into the limelight playing a psychic husband in "Pelli", was stuck with that image and hit a lean patch after he kept repeating himself. Unfortunately, with "Naalo" he makes a comeback with a similar role instead of something different.

Pretty Pooja Bharati impresses both in looks and acting. Towards the end, she loses her way as she is left confused - to choose between the two men in her life. She, however, certainly shows promise.

Tamil composer Deva has had musical hits in Telugu like "Tholi Prema" and "Bagunnara". He has done a Telugu film again after a long gap. Except for one number, he rehashes most of his old Tamil hits, belying expectations.

Director Samuddhira Kani, who claims to have worked as an assistant to legendary filmmaker K. Balachander, gives the viewer a few good moments but fails to make the whole film engrossing.

The story is about a young man (Prithvi) who resolves to earn money and marry his love (Pooja). After becoming rich, he takes up residence opposite Pooja's house. He slowly befriends her family without revealing his identity and helps them a lot. He steals Pooja's personal diary and fulfils her wishes. But he is shocked when he comes to know that she is getting engaged to Charan. Prithvi is desperate to win his love and tries to drive a wedge between the lovers.

You have to watch the film to know whether he succeeds in his endeavour. Do not, however, expect great cinema.
