Chanti-The Hero Telugu Movie
After failing to impress as a tragic lover in "Naa Autograph", Ravi Teja this time overtly plays to the gallery. But a contrived plot mars the chances of "Chanti".
Director Sobhan of "Varsham" fame relies more on glamour provided by two heroines and action to carry him through but the plan goes awry since commercial frills can never compensate for the lack of plot.
The tale of a military man who takes on the might of a powerful legislator to save his five-acre land could have been worth watching with a flawless script and taut screenplay, but the director fails on both counts.
The hero arrives on the scene as a soldier, but no one knows whether he has come on leave or left the service. All of a sudden, however, he appears in commando uniform in the climax scene. New generation audiences are not naive enough to swallow such stories.
Sobhan, who began with a disaster like "Bobby" and revived his career with "Varsham", disappoints with a moronic theme and has failed to extract a gripping screenplay from writers Shajahan-Vivek.
Upcoming Charmy overdoes the role of a daredevil girl. She has yet to shed the hangover of her loud performance in "Sri Anjaneyam". Debutant Anjali provides the oomph.
National Award-winning Hindi actor Atul Kulkarni, who impressed in "Gouri", tries to salvage a poorly etched role.
Composer Sri blasts one's ears with heavy beats. Sri, who impressed with an offbeat score in "Aithe", has relied more on cacophony, suppressing the lyrics.
The story is about Ravi, a soldier, arriving home for the funeral of his father (Ranganath) and burning his body in their five-acre land. He resolves to take care of his blind sister. Meanwhile, legislator Atul buys a sugar factory and needs the land for laying a road to his factory. Ravi refuses to sell his land, and the clash begins.
Charmy and Anjali fall in love with Ravi. He is shattered when Atul kills his sister's husband. He also comes to know through Charmy that Atul has killed his father.
You have to watch the movie to know whether he avenges the killings of his father and brother-in-law.
