The much-awaited "Aaptha Mithra" produced by Dwarakish turns out to be the best Kannada film released this year.

The technical finesse of the film enhances the outstanding performance of lead artistes Soundarya, who is no more, Vishnuvardhan and Ramesh.

The ardent desire of the Kannada film audience for a good film after a spate of bad releases has at last been met.

Though all artistes have done well, it is Soundarya's performance that the audience will remember for long.

Perhaps the tragic death of this talented actress only a few months before the release of the film in a way undermines the efforts made by other artistes and technicians.

Though "Aaptha Mithra" is based on the award-winning Malayalam hit "Manichithrathaazhu", there are many changes.

Director P. Vasu has consciously changed many sequences in the first half, keeping in mind Vishnuvardhan's image.

The humour in the first half is appealing though the story moves at just an average pace, picking up pace only in the second half with twists and turns enough to hold the audience interest to the end.

The hero makes his entry in an action sequence. Vishnuvardhan excels in the role, which looks tailor made for him. Ramesh Arvind is at his charming best.

The film has good technical support. Ramesh Babu's camera work is attractive.

Guru Kiran's songs and background score in the film elevate the quality of the film.

"Kana kanave sharade", "Pata pata gaali pata" and the remixed "Kalavannu thadeyoru yaaroo illa" are the songs that could top the charts.
