Shock Tamil Movie
For the uninitiated, "Shock" is the remake of Ram Gopal Varma's Hindi film "Bhoot", one of the most successful films made last year. The film starred Urmila, Ajay Devgan, Victor Banerjee, Nana Patekar, Rekha and Tanuja and all the actors left a strong impact.
Comparisons with the original might work against "Shock", but it is worth a scare. As in the original, the story of the film starts with Vasanth (Prasanth) and his wife Malini (Meena) coming to stay in a flat on the 12th floor of an apartment. The apartment has a bad history, where the previous tenant had jumped from the balcony and committed suicide. Even though Vasanth came to know about this prior to getting the apartment, he ignores this and did not bother to tell this to his wife.
But Malini does find out that secret and becomes distressed. She wanders around the house at night and, suddenly, strange things start happening to her. Malini gets increasingly disoriented and Vasanth is worried over his wife's mental state. He consults a reputed psychiatrist Dr Rajan (Sarath Babu) who tells him that his wife suffers from a multiple personality disorder.
But soon Vasanth loses trust in the doctor and the maidservant in the house who speaks and walks in a weird way looking half-mad herself, tells Vasanth that Malini is possessed by the ghost of Manju and he should get an exorcist to tackle the situation. An exorcist (Suhasini) is brought home to drive away the ghost in Malini. How she goes about it forms the rest of the tale.
There wasn't much for Prashanth to perform in "Shock". He appears as the same calm loving husband of Malini throughout the movie. Meena did a great job, but people tend to compare her role with Urmila's role in the original. Thyagarajan has written the dialogues and screenplay for the film. He is also the art director, producer and director of the film. He does the role of a police officer, which was enacted by Patekar in the original. Like the original, "Shock" do not have any songs or fights. "Shock" is an exact scene by scene copy of the original. There is nothing new for those who have watched the original. Others might find it interesting.
