It is very important that, if you want to survive in any film industry in India, you better pray for a successful debut. By successful, I don't mean commercially, but at least to the extent of being recognized by a handful of people few months after the release of your film. Veteran actor S.V Ranga Rao's grandson makes his debut with Mr. 7, directed by SR Charan Reddy. Unfortunately, this may not be the debut he'd hoped for and not definitely after being 'labeled' as Jr. S.V Ranga Rao.

The story revolves around two small time thieves, Lakshman and Anji - partners in crime. They're orphans too which brings them much closer. They earn a livelihood by stealing bikes and robbing people off their valuables. Lakshman falls in love with Nakshatra, who happens to know nothing about his background. Lakshman decides call it quits by stealing one last time however this time something bigger- an expensive Mercedes car. Meanwhile, Naik, a professional thief decides to rob a bank and use Lakshman's stolen car to transport the money. When the cops come to learn about the bank robbery, not only do they chase Naik and his gang but Lakshman too because his car was used. How does Lakshman manage to free himself from all this mess and marries his lady love forms the rest of the story.

Neither was the story promising nor the actors. Director Charan Reddy doesn't add anything promising to the film and makes the whole product seem illogical and immature. The story was cliched and didn't have a purpose to boast about unless you go searching for one. Since there was no scope for any development of story in the film, neither was there one for the actors. So, the actors had barely anything to express, except soulless acting.

I wonder why filmmakers and producers agree to retell a same story over and over again. When you don't have story, it's quite obvious your production values also go for a toss. One way to salvage any film, irrespective of the cast is, by adding senseless comedy. I mean don't bother if it makes sense or not, what matters at the end is did audience enjoy their two hours in the theatre. Mr. 7 fails to succeed in this department as well, as the film has very little comedy and hardly any scope for emotions.

In essence; Mr. 7 is the worst debut any actor could've wished or prayed for.
