Madras High Court bans online piracy of Mersal

Vijay’s Mersal is all set to rock from the 18th of October for the festival of lights Diwali. Earlier on, the case filed against the film from using the title Mersal has been quashed by the judge.


Further on, producer Thenandal Film Studios on their part, moved the court to obtain interim injunction restraining service providers from permitting online pirates using their platforms to upload the film. The Madras High Court restrained 37 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which included BSNL, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, Bharti Airtel, Aircel Cellular, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Telenor and Sify Technologies from permitting 2,650 cinema-related websites listed out by Thenandal Studios, from hosting the upcoming movie on the Internet by recording it at cinema theatres or through any other means.
