Los Angeles, Jan 25 (IANS) Actress Anne Hathaway couldn't stop crying when her hair was cut short for a scene in "Les Miserables".

Dirrector Tom Hooper decided to cut her hair off with a knife for her role to look more authentic in the movie musical. Actress Nicola Sloane, who was given the task, revealed how difficult it was for Hathaway.

"The director said, 'I want it to look really vicious we need you to be hacking at it with a knife.'," mirror.co.uk quoted Sloane as saying.

"We blu-tacked a razor blade against a knife blade and I held the two together and you have to saw away at it that's the only way to get it off. She was all right and I had cut all the front and this little voice went 'cut'. I thought 'oh she's had enough' so I moved my hands away and then she burst into tears when she felt how short it was at the front.

"It was just before she got married there's no wonder she bawled her eyes out - she had been growing her hair for three years. Then I hacked it all off and made her look terrible," she added.

Hathaway later sold her locks in order to raise money for charity.

"I gave it back to her and there's this thing called 'Locks of love' in America where they auction off celebrity's hair and she did that to raise money for charity so a lot of good came out of it," said Sloane. Click the Movie button below for more info:
