Tamil cinema industry is abuzz with the love affair of director and actor Cheran’s daughter, Damini. Damini recently filed a police complaint alleging that her father has been threatening her lover Chandru, an assistant director and dancer, and he has been missing for some time. However, later Chandru appeared before the police in Thousand Lights police station and said that he was in Coimbatore fearing Cheran and his people’s threats. Damini who left home in the pretext of going to college had gone to Chandru’s house and along with Chandru’s relatives she had gone to file the police complaint.

Cheran was called by the police and after meeting the police officials Cheran met the media and broke down. He said that he is not against love and he has married his wife after falling in love with her. He also cited that he has made films glorifying love.

Cheran added that while he agreed for the marriage of Damini with Chandru, later he came to know about his antecedents and found that he is not trustworthy. Cheran alleged that Chandru has been mentally torturing his daughter Damini for the past several months and she had taken treatment at a private hospital for the same. He said that Damini has been forced to give the police complaint as Chandru has got her email and facebook password and he has been threatening to defame the director and his family.

In the meanwhile, there are reports that a female dance artist had earlier filed a police complaint against Chandru for alleged harassment and abuse.

Cheran met the media along with his wife Selvarani and directors Ameer, Karu Palaniappan, Nadigar Sangam president and secretary Sarathkumar and Radha Ravi were present along with them.

Even after several hours of counseling and negotiations at the police station too, Damini refused to go along with Cheran and she has been sent to a Government Home in Chennai. Damini is a final year student of graduation.
