New Delhi, July 12 (IANS) History is a set of interpretations and a new docu-drama series on TV attempts to give a different perspective to stories from pages of contemporary history, says show anchor and acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

The series "Pradhanmantri", scheduled to start on channel ABP News Saturday, will showcase unheard stories of Indian politics around the time of independence.

"History is always an interpretation, and the stories which we are telling are the ones which were not published, or were not talked about," Kapur said at the launch of the show here.

"There are controversies which were buried, and some of them can still create controversy," he said.

Initially conceptualised for 23 episodes, the weekly programme will chronicle the history of India from 1947 to the present day.

"We are careful about history, and often afraid to tell the truth. We are not just sensitive about history, we try to hide it," Kapur added.

Shazi Zaman, group editor of ABP News, said the series would be highly topical, as most of the issues covered affect the contemporary polity.

"The series is about history that is alive and kicking," said Zaman.

The show will be aired every Saturday.
