Mumbai, April 4 (IANS) The premiere of digitally restored version of Sai Paranjpye's classic "Chashme Buddoor" turned out to be a low-key event, which saw the presence of star cast of the film and some TV actors.

Apart from Deepti Naval, Farooque Sheikh and Rakesh Bedi, who acted in "Chashme Buddoor", one of the best told buddy stories so far, anchor-turned-actor Rannvijay and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra were seen at the Thursday event.

Rakesh said: "We are not releasing the film with the intention of any competition. This is being released only because today's generation doesn't know what the film was about."

The 1981 release "Chashme Buddoor" has been remade by David Dhawan and both the versions have hit the screens Friday. If orignial, which also starred Farooque Sheikh and Ravi Baswani, is still on the movie lovers' favourite list, the latest version has got encouraging reviews too.

The new version stars Ali Zafar, Siddharth, Taapsee Pannu, and Divyendu Sharma.

"When we released 'Chashme Buddoor' in 1981, we had only banners and posters and now look at the marketing strategy. That time we didn't have such aggressive marketing," said Rakesh.

Rannvijay said he enjoyed the experience of watching the classic on the silver screen.

"It's great opportunity for the new generation, who has not seen the film, to watch it on the big screen. I am happy that I could watch the film of 17mm screen," he added.

Mishra said: "It's not easy to make this kind of film. Who wouldn't want to watch this film on the big screen!"
