New Delhi, April 20 (IANS) Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin Saturday promoted the use of recycled products, including stationery and furniture, made out Tetra Pak cartons, for school children.

The "Ek Thi Daayan" actress was here for 'Your Cartons. My Classroom', an initiative jointly promoted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and food packaging and processing company Tetra Pak.

"I'm impressed with the recycled material made out of used Tetra Pak cartons. Surprisingly roof sheets, benches and other stationery material made from recycled Tetra Pak cartons are solid and durable. This is a wonderful way of making use of used cartons," Kalki said.

The initiative was aimed to encourage the efforts of Project SEARCH (Sensitisation, Education and Awareness on Recycling for a Cleaner Habitat), a nationwide programme to create awareness among school students, teachers and the school community at large about recycling and reusing of waste.

School students associated with Project SEARCH collected around 200,000 used Tetra Pak cartons for recycling. School stationery and furniture made out of these recycled products will be donated to schools in different cities like Bangalore, Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai.

Kalki believes involving school kids is a "very forward looking thought as it is the youth of today which will help spread the message of recycling to their parents, peers and others around".
