It's exciting, challenging: Rhea on acting

New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) After playing a fun loving Punjabi girl in Ashima Chibber's comedy film, "Mere Dad Ki Maruti", MTV VJ-turned-actress Rhea Chakraborty says she now has her priorities right. The 20-year-old is clear she would like to work in films.

"I had to work really hard to get the role. I auditioned more than two hundred times. But working in films is exciting and challenging. I am looking forward to doing more films," said Rhea, known for popular music shows like "Fantastic Five" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds."

Sharing her experience, the actress said: "Considering it was my debut project, I was initially very nervous. But the entire cast and crew made me really comfortable on the sets. And now I am best friends with all of them. We had a blast on the set. I must say that I have always had the luxury of getting pampered on the sets, be it TV shows or film."

When asked if she relates to the character, she said, "Not really. Yeah, I am fun loving. I do crack jokes at times too. But Jasleen is a sort of self-obsessed and very fashionable Punjabi girl. I don't relate to her hundred percent, but my friends who have seen the movie claim that I am like her."

Rhea said being a VJ and acting are completely different things. "You have to be yourself when you host a show. You have to interact with viewers, crack jokes, sympathise with them, entertain them; but in films, you play a character. You have to get hold of the attention of viewers."

The actress, who is also busy with M.S. Raju's Telugu film "Tuneega Tuneega", admitted she had never done an acting course or studied theatre, so she had to rehearse the script before each shot.

"I started my career with 'Teen Diva', and that helped me learn anchoring. Fortunately, I got work after the show ended. And I never got time to learn acting. Also it's a very spontaneous film. Learning dialogues wasn't that difficult. It all came naturally, but I used to rehearse before each shot," she said.
