Delhi HC rejects plea on 'Jolly LLB'
Mar 8, 2013 IANSA division bench of Chief Justice D. Murugesan and Justive V.K. Jain, while rejecting the public interest litigation (PIL) said: "In our opinion, the petition cannot be entertained at this stage for want of full details.
"The petition is solely on the basis of a trailer, and at this stage it is difficult for us to find out in what context the dialogues were used. We are not inclined to entertain this petition at this stage."
The film, scheduled for March 5 release, has been directed by Subhash Kapoor and features Arshad Warsi, Amrita Rao and Boman Irani in lead roles.
Referring to certain scenes and dialogues in the film, the bench said: "This conversation per say does not amount to be defamatory or contentious."
The PIL filed by a group of lawyers said: "The contents of the film ("Jolly LLB") are defamatory. In the film, lawyers from a Meerut law college have been portrayed in a bad light."
Petitioner Jaideep Mallik and Birender Sangwan had earlier alleged that "the film contains scenes showing disgraceful acts in court proceedings, thus the certification granted to the said film is liable to be withdrawn or quashed".
Appearing for the film maker, senior lawyer Neeraj Kishan Kaul said the scenes in the movie were "creative expression of the film maker and depiction of the day-to-day happenings".
Kaul said the trailer of the movie was being aired since January and the petitioners approached the court just a few days before the release of the film. "Such practices have to be stopped," he said.
