Birthday Special! 7 Ranbir Kapoor characters that won our hearts
Sep 28, 2016 Shweta KulkarniHe has the Kapoor blood running through his veins, hence it’s no surprise that every time Ranbir Kapoor graces the screen he owns it truly with his excellent histrionics.
Irrespective of whatever the fate of the film is, the riveting Kapoor boy has always walked away with applauses right from his very first attempt in Bollywood — Saawariya.
Over the years, this powerhouse of talent has entertained us in many films and has done several diverse roles that have etched themselves in our memories.
Some of the characters that Ranbir has played were performed so earnestly that they simply stole our hearts.
On the occasion of his 34th birthday, we decided to list down some of our favorite Ranbir Kapoor characters.
Do let us know, which one appealed to you the most…
Murphy, Barfi
This Ranbir Kapoor character undoubtedly tops our list. Ranbir brought the character of the deaf and dumb Murphy aka Barfi to life with such heart-warming innocence and honesty that it’s impossible to not fall in love with this amusing and endearing character.
Despite playing a deaf and dumb boy, he redefined himself with every expression – whether it was his happy face, the ridiculous expressions he made to make people laugh, his angry 'speech', or his bewildered look, Ranbir stole the limelight in every frame.
Ranbir as Murphy even reminded us of his legendary grandfather — Raj Kapoor.
Jordan, Rockstar
The character of this distraught rockstar needed severe intensity and Ranbir clearly gave Jordan his all, doing complete justice to the layered character.
He played the character with rare depth and intensity, lived through Jordan’s pathos and madness and gave us one memorable performance.
Jordan with his raw-rugged appeal was simply mind-blowing.
Sid, Wake Up Sid
Ranbir effortlessly won hearts with his lazy, unmotivated, carefree yet adorable character — Sid Mehra, in the coming of age film Wake Up Sid.
Ranbir infused this character with such peppiness and zest that it’s infectious even today. His easy charm is impossible to ignore and despite being a brat, Sid has found a permanent spot in our hearts.
Harpreet Singh Bedi, Rocket Singh: Salesman of The Year
Another Ranbir’s character that touched our chords was the street-smart salesman — Harpreet, from the film Rocket Singh: Salesman of The Year.
Unlike other larger-than-life characters, Harpreet came across as real and despite the fate of the film at the box-office, the turban-clad Harpreet made an impact with his smart antics. Of course, all credit to the versatile actor who played him to perfection.
Samar Pratap Singh, Rajneeti
Taking a break from all the cutesy-romantic characters, Ranbir took up the challenge to play Samar Pratap Singh — an astute character with shades of grey.
Ranbir played him so well, that Samar Pratap not just stood out in the bevy of other stars in the film but also stayed in everyone’s memory as the combination of a modern day Arjuna and Krishna.
Prem, Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani
Ranbir’s wacky portrayal of Prem in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani left an unforgettable impact as he skillfully turned Prem into a funny and relatable character.
Ranbir played the part with such impeccable perfection that you ended up falling in love with Prem and his endearing antics.
Ved, Tamasha
Ranbir’s reunion with the Rockstar director Imtiaz Ali gave us another memorable character – Ved, a character with various shades that our talented actor owned effortlessly.
The result of his brilliant, flawless performance was that Ved became so real that it’s impossible to wipe him out of our memories ever.
Well, we are now hoping that Ranbir Kapoor recreates the similar magic in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Jagga Jasoos and all his forthcoming films.
Keep entertaining us boy! It’s a delight to watch you on the screen.
Happy Birthday!!!
