Anupam Kher announces 500th film 'The Big Sick'

Mumbai: Veteran Indian actor Anupam Kher on Tuesday announced his 500th film, a Hollywood project titled "The Big Sick". And congratulations came in from his "Silver Linings Playbook" co-actor Robert De Niro.


On Twitter, Anupam announced: "Happy to announce my 500th film 'The Big Sick'. And who else but to have Robert De Niro congratulate me. Jai Ho."


He posted this message with a video featuring De Niro, who says: "Anupam I just want to say congratulations on finishing your 500th film. That's amazing. In America, maybe I have done 90-95 movies, but it's incredible, what you have done. Congratulations again."


Anupam, 61, also shared that Holly Hunter, Ray Romano, Zoe Kazan and Kumail Nanjiani also star in "The Big Sick".


"It has been a great journey," he added.


Anupam, who began his career in Bollywood in 1984, has starred in popular films like "Tezaab", "Ram Lakhan", "Chandni", "1942: A Love Story", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!", "Bend It Like Beckham", "Bride and Prejudice" and "The Mistress of Spices" among many others.


The actor, a National School of Drama alumnus, was only 28 when he took on the role of a retired middle class Maharashtrian man, who had lost his son, in "Saaransh", directed by Mahesh Bhatt.


A theatre enthusiast and two-time National Award-winning actor, his career has been eventful - with films, plays, TV and as an acting teacher. He runs an institute called Actor Prepares.
