Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father passes away

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s father, Krishnaraj Rai, who was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, a few weeks ago, passed away on Saturday, March 18.

“Aishwarya's father Krishnaraj Rai passed away at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra," Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s publicist stated.

Rai was reportedly suffering from lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the immune system and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Aishwarya had cancelled all her work commitments and was by her father’s side throughout his ailment. Even Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan were seen frequently paying visits to the hospital.

Amitabh Bachchan also mourned Krishnaraj Rai’s death on twitter as he posted, “Death has but one end… And words cannot define it.”

The funeral took place on Saturday, about 8.30 pm at Vile Parle Seva Sansthan Shamshan Bhoomi. Many Bollywood celebrities came to pay their last respects to Aishwarya's father. Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sujoy Ghosh, Ashutosh Gowariker, Manish Malhotra, Sophie Choudry, Simi Garewal, Sonali Bendre and Kunal Kapoor with his wife Naina Bachchan were by the family's side in their hour of grief.

Krishnaraj Rai is survived by wife Vrinda, son Aditya and daughter Aishwarya.
