2014 hair trend: Get that 1970s hair makeover
Feb 13, 2014 IANSThe retro hairstyles have the ability to exude confidence and opulence combined with a casual edge, so do it the right way.
Norris Ogario, creative director of hair salon Ogario, suggests tips to get that look, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
* Start with a good cut - This is the cornerstone of great styling and will make life much easier for you. Book a consultation with your hairdresser to discuss your lifestyle and hair needs. With a good cut, hair should be able to fall into place, quite effortlessly.
* Follow with good prep - Make it your mission to moisturise twice a week with an intensive, deeply nourishing mask. This will inject hair with hydration but also help to protect it from the effects of heat styling.
* Work with your waves - If you have natural waves, work with their texture and movement. Hot rollers were popular in the seventies, but curling tongs will also work to create waves like Amy. Tongs give greater control, offer a range of heat settings and allow you to choose where to add more bounce.
* To copy Amy's sexy waves - Start by spraying damp hair with a volumising spray and blow dry it out. After sectioning off your side parting, start wrapping one-inch sections of the hair around the curling irons, starting from bottom to top working your way up. Leave to set and cool before ruffling the hair out with your finger tips and finish with some texture spray to give it a more modern day feel.
If there's a natural frizz, don't fight it. A slightly untamed, textured finish adds an element of cool. You can also create this by teasing hair at the crown and backcombing close to the roots. Click the Movie button below for more info:
